Punjab Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha will present a Rs 1.65 trillion Punjab budget for the fiscal year 2016-17 along with a supplementary budget statement in the provincial assembly on Monday.
The next year''''''''s budget is about Rs 25 billion more than the current year''''''''s budget of Rs 1.41 trillion. The government has set aside Rs 450 billion for the Annual Development Programme, 70 percent of which would be spent on the ongoing welfare schemes.
According to budget estimates, Punjab will receive Rs 1045 billion from the Federal Divisible Pool. The provincial receipt would be Rs 285 billion and the government would collect another Rs 320 billion from sources like GST on services, agriculture tax, stamp duties, excise and taxation, property tax, etc.
According to sources, the provincial government has allocated Rs 125 billion for the under-performing health sector whereas Rs 162 billion are proposed to be spent on the tattered education sector.
The Punjab government has already announced a Kissan package with an amount of Rs 100 billion for the uplift of the depressed agriculture sector.
In the new budget Rs 30 billion have been earmarked for provision of clean drinking water to the people and Rs 5.5 billion for distribution of laptops among the talented students of the province.
The government has also proposed huge amounts for improving law and order in the province. Infrastructure projects like Orange Train, Metro Bus, roads also remain pet show-case projects of the PML-N league government in the next year''''''''s proposed budget.
The Punjab Assembly has been summoned to meet at 4.pm. at the Assembly chambers here on Monday.
