The workers moving abroad for employment purposes are facing problems in issuance of protectors due to lack of Protectorate of Emigrants (PE) offices across the country. Around 946,571 workers went abroad to different countries for employment purposes during the last year while there are only seven Protectorate of Emigrants offices across the country to deal the workers from far flung areas.
There are only seven Protectorate of Emigrants offices located in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Multan and Malakand which are heavily burdened while catering the needs of thousands of the people in terms of issuing protectors.
"I am from Azad Jammu Kashmir and came here at Rawalpindi PE office for the issuance of Protector due to unavailability of such facility in my area," said a young boy, Asim Khan who is moving abroad for employment.
Sometimes, he said people have to move back to their far flung area for completion of documents and again visit the PE office. He said the government must ensure the availability of such facilities in all cities to facilitate the masses.
An official of PE in Rawalpindi told APP, "we are heavily burdened with a number of people coming here from across Punjab, Islamabad, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan for issuance of protectors and we have to return their passports within a day which is very difficult during Ramazan".
It is pertinent to mention here that the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (HRD) has recommended establishing more Protector offices in FATA, Gilgit Baltistan, AJK, Faisalabad, Rural Sindh and Rural Balochistan after a thorough feasibility study and in consultation with authorities concerned.
