Sindh chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah taking his personal initiative allowed Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to lift 25 MGD water from Hub Dam which is currently at dead level, so that water shortage in Karachi could be eased. "This lifting of water would continue for the next 25 days." This was disclosed in a meeting chaired by the Sindh Chief Minister while discussing the issue of water scarcity in the Karachi, here at the Chief Minister House.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, Principal Secretary Alamuddin Bullo, Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Ali Khan, Secretary Local Government Baqaullah Unar and all deputy commissioners and administrators of DMCs. Deputy Commissioner South Saleem Rajput said that free water tanker were being provided to water scarce areas like Shireen Jinnah Colony, Machhar Colony, different parts of Lyari and other areas. He added that Rs 10 million have also been provided for development works which are currently in progress. He said that there are 10 nalas (sewers) in the limits of District South, and the Sindh government has earmarked Rs 20 million for improvements to the sewerage system for which 24 schemes have been approved and tenders currently being invited.
