As the pre-monsoon rains have started and the Met Office has predicted that the Summer monsoon rainfall is likely to be 10-20% above normal over the country, this season averaged for three months, the Flood Warning Centre has started functioning after the lapse of eight months. The FWC was closed down on 16th October after end of the Monsoon season 2015.
The FWC has started issuing three bulletins daily regarding weather / rainfall forecasts, flood situation, water flows in the rivers Indus, Jhelum, Kabul, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej across the country. In its 17th June bulletin, FWC said that according to latest Hydrological situations, River Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh & Chashma is in Low Flood Level & River Kabul at Nowshera is in Medium Flood level. The same status of rivers is likely to continue.
Meanwhile heavy downpour thrashed Lahore and other cities of central Punjab during past 24 hours dropping the temperature up to 10 degree Celsius on Friday. The Met Office recorded rainfall as under"; Lahore [Iqbal Town=50, City & Samanabad=48 (each),Gulberg=45,Gulshan Ravi=40, Shahdara=34, Luckshami=33,Shahi Qilla & Misri Shah=32 (each),Upper Mall=30,Airport=29,Taj Pura=25,Mughal Pura=24,Johar Town=16 & Township=14 ], Jhelum=34, Chakwal=23,Mandibahauddin=14,Mirkhani=09, Joharabad=08, Dir, Parachinar & Kalam=07 (each), Marala & Muzaffarabad=05 (each), Hunza , Baghrote & Astore=03 (each), Kallar, Lower Dir & Drosh=02 (each), Islamabad (Airport=01 & Zeropoint=Trace) ,Chattar Kallas , Kotli & Gilgit =01 (each), Garhidupatta, Kasur, Gujranwala, Kamra, Bunji, Mangla & Sargodha =Trace (each).
