Foreign Office had to withdraw a condolence message by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on the "sad demise" of the country renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi after it noticed that it was based on the wrong information.
"Today, with the sad demise of legendary philanthropist Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi, everyone in Pakistan, Pakistanis abroad and millions of others, are in mourning. The iconic Edhi saheb was a soul who spent his whole life engaged in the noble cause of serving humanity. He lived for others," said Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs paid tributes to Abdul Sattar Edhi, in the press release which was later withdrawn.
"We are withdrawing the PR titled,"'Sattar Edhi - "A Soul who lived for others'", Adviser on Foreign Affairs pays tributes," which was based on wrong information passed to this office. Inconvenience is regretted", the Foreign Office said in a press release issued to the media almost 30 minutes after the earlier statement. Social media strongly reacted to the earlier press release, accusing the Foreign Office for misleading the nation about the ailing Abdul Sattar Edhi who is popular figure of the Pakistani society. Soon after the misleading press release, a trend was started with hash tag BlundersOfPMLN on the twitter.
One twitter used under the handle @khadimjmaat tweeted in Urdu language which reads as "You need to wait until forensic tests to verify the death of Mullah Mansour [Taliban chief who was recently killed in a drone strike in Balochistan] while issuing condolence message for Edhi Sahib without confirmation".
