Abdul Sattar Edhi who has been running the Edhi Foundation for the better part of six decades, has received strong backing from the Pakistan Cricket Board which is now planning to sport the foundation logo on playing shirts for the one-day international and T20I leg of its upcoming tour of England and Ireland. The foundation owns and operates a large ambulance service, free nursing homes, orphanages, clinics, women's shelters, food kitchens, and rehabilitation centres for drug addicts and mentally ill individuals nationwide.
Board Chairman Shaharyar Khan said on Saturday, "We feel honoured to associate ourselves with the work of such a great human being. The board is cognizant of its responsibility to give back to society and this is a continuation of our policy to support and promote such initiatives." The Pakistan Super League and board's Executive Committee Chairman, Najam Sethi, said, "In the past one year, the board has tried to be more aware of its social responsibility. We started with the labour camp activations during the Pakistan - England series in the United Arab Emirates, where we reached out to over 100,000 Pakistani labourers working in testing conditions. Today, we are proud of our association with the Edhi Foundation.
Saad Edhi, the Trustee of the Edhi Foundation and grandson of Abdul Sattar Edhi, who was also present, said, "On behalf of the Edhi Foundation, I would like to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for its support to our cause. Seeing our cricketers sporting the Edhi Foundation logo on their kits will raise great awareness on a global platform." Chairmen Shaharyar Khan and Sethi and Vice President and General Manager of the Pepsi Cola International Jahanzaib Khan donated cheques of Rs 500,000 and Rs 1 million to the foundation, respectively.
