Girl students have again outshined boys in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) annual examinations for 2016, by securing top positions. Ali Shah Gulalai Amjad of Science Group from Frontier Youth Academy Hayatabad Peshawar, secured the first position by obtaining 1042, out of 1100 marks, while Aleeza Gul and Maria Maqsood from Peshawar Model School (PMS) Charsadda, got second and third position by securing 1039 and 1038 marks respectively.
In Art Group, Abdul Basit of Usmania Children Academy Nothai Jadeed, stood first by gaining 952, out of 1100 marks while Nadia Khan from Agriculture University Public School and College Peshawar, obtained second position by securing 938 and Mahnoor Khurshid of Forward Public School for Girls Hayatabad Peshawar, gained third position by obtaining 936 marks in the exams.
A total 70,339 candidates belonging to three districts - Peshawar, Charsadda, Chitral and two tribal agencies Mohmand and Khyber and one (Frontier Region), Peshawar appeared in the examinations. Out of which 56,247 were declared successful, with passing percentage of 79.97, according to results announced by the Controller of Examinations, Hamidullah Jan Marwat, during a ceremony held at local hotel, here on Tuesday.
The board Chairman, Dr Muhammad Shafi Afridi, was chief guest at the ceremony, while parents, relatives, top positions holders, and officials of the education board also were present on the occasion. As per results, in Science Group, a total of 48,297 candidates appeared in the examination, out of which 42, 423 passed with per cent of 87.84. In humanities group, as many as 21,950 candidates took exams, out of which 13,755 remained successful, with passing per cent of 62.76. In additional subjects, a total of 92 candidates appeared in exams, out of which 49 passed with per cent of 53.26.
On the occasion, a cash prize of Rs 50,000 rupees, was given to first position holder, Rs 45,000 to second and Rs 40,000 to third position holder. Dr Shafi Afridi, while addressing the ceremony, said the efforts are being made to put the operational activities of the education board on modern lines. For this purpose, he added, computerisation system has been introduced to speedily extend facilities and services to students.
