The five disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of national assembly have informed party chairman Imran Khan that change in the province in the presence of chief minister Khattak was a 'wishful thinking'. The MNAs Dawar Kundi, Amirullah Marwat, Sajid Nawaz, Khayal Zaman Afridi and Junaid Akbar, briefed Imran Khan last week about the performance of the chief minister, which they claimed had broken all past record of nepotism and favouritism.
Engineer Dawar Khan Kundi, MNA, who is one of the leading members of the dissident group, told the Business Recorder that they had a very fruitful meeting with Imran Khan, during which the performance of Khattak administration and his claim of making a difference compared to previous governments came under discussion.
"We plainly told Imran Khan that we do not question the poor performance of Pervez Khattak's cabinet members especially health and education ministers. We question him because he [Khattak] is not following the manifesto of the party by giving favours to his kith and kin," he said.
When Khan asked for evidence against the chief minister Dawar claimed he submitted a bundle of files full of names related to Khattak and some ministers, who were granted out of turn favours in jobs, etc. "The condition of hospitals in the province is going from bad to worse, and we invited Khan to accompany us to see how the health minister is running hospitals in the province under the slogan of so-called change. It's against the manifesto of our party," he said.
Mr Kundi further said that Adnan Khan, the son-in-law of Chief Minister Khattak, was given contracts worth billions of rupees after flouting rules, which according to the MNA Dawar, was a violation of party manifesto and the vision of Imran Khan. The health minister Shahram Tarakai, according to the MNA also appointed his relatives in different departments which fell under the domain of his ministry.
"Is this what we dreamt of? PTI provincial government is no different than the status quo parties such as MMA, PPP and the ANP, said Mr Dawar adding that they went to Imran Khan as they stood by him in his mission to accomplish the goal of a 'changed and new Pakistan', which was not possible unless they got rid of proponents of status quo such as Mr Khattak.
"We told Imran Khan that the discretionary funds for the chief minister should be abolished as it is being misused. The budget must not be meant for only four districts of the province," he emphasised. The MNA said that Imran Khan promised to take notice of the issues raised by the lawmakers of his party, adding that the party chairman also appreciated what "we did was for the party and implementation of the party manifesto".
He said that eight Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) had also joined the five-MNAs against Khattak administration because he had completely neglected other districts of the province which was not acceptable. He maintained that the chief minister was sidelining Imran Khan through a well-planned strategy which the genuine workers of his party would never allow. "We are foot soldiers of Imran Khan and anybody working against his vision will be exposed," Mr Dawar vowed.
