Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA-KP) has prepared a contingency plan for upcoming monsoon season. The authority in co-ordination with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is actively pursuing a proactive approach to disaster management. In this connection, a provincial level meeting was chaired by Chairman NDMA retired Major General Asghar Nawaz at PDMA KP headquarter Peshawar on Wednesday. The participants of the meeting included senior PDMA KP and FDMA officials.
The participants apprised the Director General, PDMA KP on the overall preparations being made to mitigate the effects of forthcoming monsoon. He said preparedness measures undertaken and contingency plans put in place for managing any possible disaster situation. PDMA has also declared nine districts including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charrsada, DI Khan, Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Dir Upper and Dir Lower are most vulnerable, as PDMA provided them additional funds. PDMA has also acquired relief goods of 110 million, which will be distributed to the affected districts at the time of emergency. He also stated that the concerned line department and stakeholders has established control rooms for the co-ordination with PDMA headquarter at any disaster and will provide quick support to the affected. He also ensures timely pre-positioning of logistics stocks to meet any eventuality during the monsoon season. Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz (Retd) appreciated efforts of all stakeholders and directed to improve early warning mechanism for dissemination of information to communities.
