International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed across the world including Pakistan to raise awareness among the masses regarding hazards of drug addiction and illegal trafficking, informed ANF spokesman.
ANF Quetta while carrying out 2 successful intelligence led operations at District Qilla Abdullah and Chaghi, seized 19.85 Tons of Narcotics encompassing 18.533 tons of hashish and 1.326 tons of morphine respectively, a biggest ever drug seizure in the history of ANF; the worth of seized drugs amount to Rs 14 billion in international market.
According to details, ANF raided an uninhabited site located at Killi Segi, Tehsil Gulistan, District Qilla Abdullah, seizing Hashish consignment weighing 18.533 tons. Drug consignment was concealed in a seasonal stream covered with dense bushes. In another intelligence led operation, ANF Quetta seized 1.326 ton Morphine, which was found stocked at a desolate site situated in the mountainous area of Killi Baku, Karwan Tehsil & District Chaghi far away from populated area.
As per preliminary information, the seized drug consignments were placed at a cache site for handing over to another narcotics gang for onward dispatch to some unidentified location. During 2016, ANF registered 669 cases, arrested 855 persons including 9 foreigners, recovered 18.698 ton Opium, 3.682 ton heroin, 46.788 ton hashish, 1.468 ton morphine, 2.622 ton amphetamine, 1.620 kg cocaine, 106.69 kg methamphetamine, 33290 psychotropic tablets and 22.16 metric ton precursor chemical.
The value of recovered narcotics and precursors is US $836.314 million in International Market. ANF also has frozen assets worth Rs 301.5556 Million while auctioned seized property worth Rs 6.9526 million during 2016. In respect of Drug Demand Reduction, ANF treated 318 drug addicts at its 3 ANF Hospitals located at Islamabad, Quetta and Karachi, while carried out 195 awareness activities including walks, lectures, sports events, free medical camps, workshops, and poster Competitions, musical shows and display of promotional and informational material.
