Prices of kitchen essentials, except fruit, pulses, sugar, flour, cooking oil/ghee, have slightly decreased in retail market, receiving a sign of relief to consumers in the holy month of Ramazan, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
During the last week, the price of 1 kilogram baisin dropped from Rs150 to Rs120 while the prices of dates also dropped and were being sold for between Rs150 and Rs200 per kg against an earlier price of Rs250 to Rs280 per kg in retail markets. However, prices of all beverages remained unchanged in retail markets, as demand for various syrups and juices are still very high.
Similarly, a slight decrease in price of rice has also been witnessed, as the commodity is now available at Rs110/kg against Rs120/kg earlier. The price of sugar too remained unchanged and is being sold at Rs62/kg.
According to the Business Recorder survey, big white channa is available for Rs180/kg, which was last month being sold at Rs110/kg in retail. Dal channa is being sold for Rs135/kg, Dal green for Rs140/kg. However, while Red bean was sold at Rs120/kg and Dal moonge at Rs140/kg, Dal mash and white lobiya prices showed increase and were being sold at Rs270/kg, and Rs120/kg respectively in retail markets.
Price of cooking oil/ghee of various brands and varieties ranged between Rs120 to Rs180/kg while ghee prices have also witnessed manifold increase during the month of Ramazan.
Prices of green groceries also showed slight decline in retail markets, with lemons being sold for Rs120/kg against an earlier price of Rs200/kg last week. A five kilogram bag of potatoes was being sold for Rs125/kg against Rs150/kg recorded last week, while five kilogram bag of onions was available at Rs150/kg and ginger was sold for Rs150/kg per from an earlier high of Rs200/kg. Five kilogram bag of tomatoes was being sold at Rs125/kg against the earlier price of Rs150/kg recorded in the previous week, stated the Business Recorder survey.
Other veggies like, ladyfinger being sold at Rs 40 per kg, cauliflower at Rs 60 per kilogram, capsicum at Rs 80 per kilogram, calabash at Rs 40 per kg, tori at Rs 40 per kg, and cabbage at Rs 100 per kilogram.
Price of fruit is still high side, as no change was witnessed during previous week, according to survey. The fruit is staple food, which were commonly used in the holy month of Ramzan.
Apple is being sold at Rs 130 and Rs 150 per kilogram, mango available at Rs 100 and Rs 120 per kg, melon at Rs 30 per kg, banana at Rs 100 per dozen, water melon at Rs100 and Rs 120 per piece.
According to survey, the price of flour has also surged up since in the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan, as a 20-bag bag of mix flour available at Rs 720, while bag of fine atta, weighting (20-kg) being sold at Rs 780 and Rs 800 in retail.
Fresh milk sold at Rs 90 and Rs 100 per litre - while price of milk powder of various brands and quality has also risen in the retail market. One kilogram fresh yogurt available at Rs 90 and Rs 100/-.
