The closing ceremony of the UN project-'Livelihood Restoration, Protection and Sustainable Empowerment of Vulnerable Peasant Communities in Sindh province (LRP), will be held on Friday (July 1). The Country Directors of International Labour Organisation (ILO) and UN-Women, while the Country Representative of FAO will speak about the work of their respective agencies towards bettering the lives of 11,800 families in rural areas of Sindh province.
The Director General Agriculture, government of Sindh, representatives of Pakistan Workers Federation and the Employers Federation of Pakistan, Commissioner of Mirpurkhas division, Secretary Planning and Development Department, government of Sindh will explain the role of the government and social partners towards making the project a success. UN Resident Co-ordinator to Pakistan, Neil Buhne will address the participants to highlight the characteristics and benefits of delivering as One, by the UN system in Pakistan.
LRP was a joint project of ILO, FAO and UN-Women, funded by United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) with the overall goal of restoring and protecting the livelihoods and empower the poor and vulnerable peasants (men, women, boys and girls) dependent on feudal and tribal landholding and farming systems and affected by droughts, floods and insecurity.
