The residents of twin cities, who are leaving to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their families, are facing problems due to overcharging and overloading by intercity transporters to mint extra money.
Despite the tall claim of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) of taking measure to control overcharging, the inter-city buses and vans have increased fares taking advantage of the Eid rush, as majority of residents of the twin cities go to their native hometowns to celebrate Eid.
The situation is not only increasing burden on the common people but is also resulting in the exchange of hot words between transporters and commuters as commuters are not ready to accept the increase in fares made by transporters.
However, a senior official of ICT administration said that the administration has launched a drive against overcharging of inter city transport fares before Eid-ul-Fitr on July 1. He said that Secretary Transport Authority Shazia Qazi on the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) ICT has constituted four special squads to check fares being charged by the transporters.
The official said that ICT administration has directed administrators of bus stands to remain in field along with their inspection teams and in case of non compliance on the notified fares and overcharging strict action will be taken.
Secretary Islamabad transport authority has also constituted a special complaint cell to entertain any complaints regarding over charging by the public transport.
