The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responding to 7039 emergencies, rescued 8080 victims from all 36 districts of the province during Eid holidays. The Emergency Ambulance, Rescue and Fire Services responded to 3554 emergencies of road traffic crashes; 2527 medical, 92 fire incidents, 13 building collapses, 203 crime incidents, 22 drowning and 627 miscellaneous. Presiding over a meeting at Rescue 1122 Headquarters here on Saturday, the DG Rescue Punjab Brigadier (R) Dr Arshad Zia expressed serious concern over increasing number of cases of one-wheeling during Eid holidays.
In a briefing, the DG was told that a total of 34 cases of one-wheeling were reported on Eid days, and out of total 7039 emergencies some 30 people lost their lives during different nature of emergencies including RTAs, medicals, drowning, fires etc.
Almost 80 persons sustained spinal injury; 520 head injury, 626 leg fractured, 195 multiple injuries and 3071 sustained minor injuries and were provided first aid by rescuers at the spot. The Provincial Monitoring Cell (PMC) briefed the Director General that emergency plans for Eid, prepared in close co-ordination with Districts administrations, were implemented in all the districts of Punjab. Dr Arshad Zia said that the ratio of road traffic crashes usually increases on such occasions, which is a matter of concern for relevant departments.
He said the implementation of road safety laws should be ensured with zero tolerance. He said that the commuters especially the motorists seem in hurry on such occasions, but they should remember that nothing is important than human life. He also appreciated the rescuers, whose leaves were cancelled and who performed duty on Eid holidays by sacrificing their own Eids. He further asked them to perform duty with same zeal and passion during floods.
