Orange Line project: LHC seeks explanation on protection of Lahore's monuments

The Punjab government has been told by the Lahore High Court to explain further on protection of Lahore's monuments falling within the route on which the Orange Line project is being executed. The Lahore High Court is hearing the case today (Tuesday).
On Monday, petitioners' counsel objecting to measures taken to protect the monuments reminded the court of reservations by international organisations about preserving the historic buildings. Law officers, however, counter-claimed, saying the international standard was being maintained at the sites near these monuments and made it clear that the buildings would be protected at all costs.
The controversial case stemmed from a court ruling of January 28 which stayed the project. The petitioners had challenged the project, claiming the project was far too expensive that would not only devastate the city's beauty and cultural landscape but also cause pollution.
