The jirga of tribal elders in Mohmand Agency have vowed to extend full cooperation to security forces against all militants in the border regions to establish complete writ of law and restoration of peace.
A jirga of Koda Khel, Atmar Khel, Musa Khel and Essa Khel tribesmen was held at the hujra (out-house) of Malik Sultan Kodal khel in Koda Khel Biazai area on Sunday. The jirga was attended by Malik Sulatan Koda Khel, Malik Nader Manan, Malik Pahlawan, Malik Ghulam Noor, Malik Sher, Malik Museeb Khan Koda Khel, Malik Baghi Shah Koda Khel along with hundreds of tribesmen.
A unanimous decision by the tribesmen at the jirga said, that there is no need for a security operation as tribesmen are co-operating with security forces and the Political Administration in maintaining vigil against militant activity in the region.
The tribal elders stressed, that there is peace in the entire Mohmand Agency and writ of the government has been restored in the area, but "Sometimes minor incidents do occur, as in other parts of the country" added a tribal elder. The tribesmen also voiced concern against the Political Administration for enforcing a ban on cultivating lands, logging trees and also sealing their shops and others properties after a few incidents in the surrounding areas of Kado Kore, Bahi Kore of Ekkaghund tehsil and Dawezai occured. They further also condemned the Political Administration for curtailing their privileges and cancelling the identity cards and domicile certificates of Kado Kore and Dawezai tribesmen.
Many tribesmen voiced their concerns in the jirga and were of the opinion that there is no need for a security operation in the area. They said that tribesmen were already badly affected by militancy especially with many houses of tribesmen damaged. The tribal elders unanimously vowed, they will not allow any anti-state or terrorist activity in the tribal regions and if the government wants to conduct a security operation they should carry out targeted raids in the region against miscreants.
Malik Nader Manan, the government and political administration should provide certain incentives to the Biazai tribesmen as they are most affected by militants and terrorist due to the long porus border with neighbouring Afghanistan. He also was of the opinion, that since peace has been restored in the region, therefore the government should reopen the Pakistan-Afghanistan Gursal trade route with Afghanistan that was closed seven years ago. The jirga concluded on the note with tribal elders unanimously pledging all-out support to the security forces and Political Administration in targeting all miscreants in the tribal regions.
