Australian wrestler Vinod Kumar has been suspended for four years after failing a doping test, with the Australian Olympic team moving on Friday to have him withdrawn from their Rio-bound squad. Kumar qualified for next month's Games in Brazil in the Greco-Roman 66kg category, but tested positive at the African/Oceania Olympic qualifier in Algeria in April.
The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) said "subsequent tests of the A and B samples were positive", without providing details of the drug involved. "The Australian Olympic Committee has asked Wrestling Australia to withdraw the nomination of athlete Vinod Kumar for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games following an anti-doping violation," the AOC said. "He has been suspended for four years but has 30 days in which to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport." Kumar was one of two Australians due to compete in Rio in Greco-Roman wrestling, while two others qualified in the freestyle category.
