Abdul Sattar Edhi: Work on design of commemorative coin begins on PM's directive
Following the directives of Prime Minister, the State Bank of Pakistan has begun working on design of Rs 50 commemorative coin to honour deceased Abdul Sattar Edhi, the icon of social work in Pakistan. The decision to issue commemorative coin was made by the federal government while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had approved that in the cabinet meeting held on Friday.
The federal government will decide the final design of the coin. The Governor of the SBP announced this decision at a condolence gathering held at the SBP Karachi for Edhi.
The issuance of a commemorative coin will keep alive memories of his philanthropic personality in our history. It is just a token to acknowledge late Edhi's services to the humanity, he said. "Those nations who honour their heroes create examples and future generations continue to inherit that legacy," said the SBP governor.
Earlier, speakers at the 'condolence' gathering at the SBP paid tributes to Abdul Sattar Edhi. They remembered Edhi for filling the void of lack of social welfare services in the country and laying foundation of a sound organisation to serve the humanity thus became a role model in this sector.
