Around 25 Pakistani hockey stars played for different teams in this year's Bangladesh Hockey League-2016 and shined for their respective teams by giving some excellent performance in 12 teams competed lasted for two months.
The winners Mariner Young included three Pakistanis including double Olympian Waqas Sharif, who also top scored for his side with 17 goals. While the runner-up Usha had as many as five Pakistanis in their ranks including the current Pakistan captain M. Irfan Senior and two former Pakistan captains, Shakeel Abbasi and Shafqat Rasool.
Pakistani contingent included past and present stars, junior internationals as well as up and coming players. Apart from Pakistan, players from Germany, India and Malaysia were also part with different clubs in the League.
Bangladesh Hockey League is a highly competitive event which is keenly followed and attended by the supporters of the clubs. Matches involving top four, Usha, Mohammedan Sporting, Abahani and Mariner, attracted vociferous crowds of around 5,000.
