Pakistani boxer Mohammad Waseem defeated Philippine boxer Jether Olivia to clinch the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title, here in Seoul on Sunday. The two fighters exchanged blows throughout the 12 rounds of the games and eventually the Pakistani boxer was declared the winner.
Following the win, Mohammad Waseem is now placed at fourth position in world professional boxing rankings.
Before the fight, Oliva's manager Jim Claude Mananquil, chief executive officer of the Sanman Promotions had said he was confident with Jether Oliva's experience. "I think that will be the key for him to get the victory," said Mananquil.
Waseem, talking to a private TV after his win, said that it was an honour for him to win the championship for his country and he dedicated his win to the nation. "I thank the whole nation for their prayers," Waseem said.
He said that the national as well as international coaches supported him a lot in the night.
