The Ambassador of Republic of South Korea Dr Suh Dong-Gu called on the Chairman National Highway Authority Shahid Ashraf Tarar in his office on Wednesday. The meeting discussed progress over various projects including China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The two also agreed on the timely completion of the Lowari Tunnel project where Korean firm M/s SAMBU is as contractor. About 70% work on this important project has already been completed and it is expected to complete by December 2017. It was also decided in the meeting to move forward on the proposed Malakand Tunnel for which Korea has already offered a loan of US $78 million through Axim Bank. The project is presently in the detailed design stage. The total cost of the project is $92.14 million.
The Ambassador said his country desired to expand economic relations with Pakistan especially in the field of highway construction and expressed special interest to participate in the process for Hyderabad - Sukkur Motorway which NHA plans to award on BOT basis and also for Kalakat - Chitral project. The Chairman NHA welcomed Korea's interest in these projects and hoped the relations between the two countries will grow stronger in days to come.-PR
