The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday rejected the bail plea filed by Pak Sarzameen Party's (PSP) leader Anees Qaimkhani in a case pertaining to providing treatment to terrorists at Ziauddin Hospital Karachi, directing him to approach the trial court. Qaimkhani had filed plea through his counsel, seeking the bail as according to him he was falsely implicated in the case.
Advocate Muhammad Farooq submitted that Qaimkhani's name was not mentioned directly in the JIT report. He maintained that his client could not be considered as culprit just on the basis of JIT report. "My client is innocent and he never asked Dr Asim to provide treatment to terrorists. The court is requested to grant him a bail," he added.
After going through all the testimonies, the SHC bench declined PSP leader's bail plea and directed him to approach Anti-Terrorsim Court, the court in which terrorists' treatment case is being trialled. Separately, the SHC office reversed the plea filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader and nominated mayor of Karachi Waseem Akhtar in the same case, after raising objection on it.
The political leaders were arrested on Wednesday within the premises of Anti-Terrorism Court after their interim bails were cancelled by the judge who ordered the arrest of all accused political leaders. Akhtar, Qaimkhani and other political leaders had been facing charges of asking Dr Asim Hussain, the PPP leader and close aide of former President Asif Ali Zardari, to treat the militants belonging to their respective parties at two branches of Ziauddin Hospital, owned by him.
