Spot cash basis bids for hard red winter wheat in the southern US Plains held steady on Wednesday despite weaker premium scales, merchandisers said. Protein premiums for wheat shipped to and through Kansas City on Tuesday declined due to wheat quality issues. K.C. hard red winter wheat futures followed other Chicago Board of Trade grain markets lower, pressured by profit-taking. As of 12:06 pm CDT (1706 GMT), K.C. September HRW wheat futures were down 8 cents per bushel to $4.02-1/2.
