Pakistan People's Party (PPP) decided on Sunday to remove Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah. "Pakistan People's Party today (Sunday) decided to make changes in the Sindh cabinet including bringing in a new Chief Minister," said Senator Farhatullah Babar, a PPP spokesperson in a statement.
The decision was taken in a meeting of senior PPP members with former President Asif Ali Zardari and the party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Dubai. Syed Qaim Ali Shah was also present in the meeting wherein performance of the Sindh government was discussed in detail.
Babar said in his statement that Bilawal is scheduled to return to Karachi early in the week starting from Monday to meet provincial party leaders and party MPAs before finalising changes in the Sindh cabinet.
"Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah may be the next Chief Minister Sindh and the party chairman Bialwal Bhutto will take a final decision in this regard in the next couple of days," a senior PPP leader told Business Recorder.
He said the decision of removal of Sindh chief minister was made following Bilawal's lack of confidence in his performance.
The PPP leader said that Asif Ali Zardari and other senior party leaders have given full mandate to Bilawal Bhutto for appointment of the new chief minister and the Sindh cabinet.
Talking about extension of Rangers powers in Karachi, he said that the issue was also discussed in the meeting and it was decided that the new chief minister would not allow the Rangers to take action against any government official, department or conduct any raids in rural Sindh without his prior permission.
He said the new chief minister would grant extension in powers of Rangers in Sindh but keep a check on the paramilitary's performance too. "The Rangers' only mandate would be to conduct operations against militants, terrorists and criminals linked with militancy in the province," he said.
The PPP leader said that Bilawal Bhutto would himself monitor performance of the new chief minister and his cabinet and no allegation of corruption or malpractice would be condoned in future.
