State Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Monday informed a parliamentary panel that three additional hospitals would be constructed in the metropolis to cater needs of patients of twin cities besides upgrading the services of the Poly Clinic Hospital and the PIMS Hospital.
Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood chaired the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet where the participants discussed poor performance of Poly Clinic Hospital and inquiries pending against the doctors of the hospital. Mismanagement in the affairs of PIMS hospital, Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and flaws in the design of runways of new Islamabad Airport also came under discussion. The committee further considered the issue of miserable condition of the animals and specially the elephant in Margalla Zoo.
The State Minister said that the primary reason behind poor performance of PIMS was due to establishment of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University in the hospital. The management of hospital and university could not be mixed. The Chairman Committee observed that the committee has serious reservations over the problems being faced by patients in Poly Clinic Hospital. The committee came to know that substandard blood was sold in the hospital and doctors were offering handsome bribe for gaining house jobs in the hospital. He further said that the FIA seized heavy quantity of the medicines dispatched for Poly Clinic and PIMS Hospitals.
