Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday nominated Senior Minister for Finance and Energy Syed Murad Ali Shah as the party candidate for the chief ministership of Sindh, it has been learnt. Addressing PPP Sindh Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday, Biawal Bhutto said that they had decided to change the chief minister of the province and bring in Syed Murad Ali Shah as the new chief minister of Sindh.
The PPP Sindh lawmakers extended their unanimous support to party chairman. Bilawal said he would give full authority to the incoming chief minister to make changes in the cabinet. The sources said that portfolios that are subject to likely changes are education, health, culture and minority affairs. The sources, however, said that Bilawal applauded Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani for running the provincial assembly in an effective and meaningful manner and asked him to continue his role as the Speaker of the provincial assembly.
Bilawal said that he had been scrutinising the performance of assembly members since January. Moreover, during the meeting, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah submitted his resignation to Bilawal. He would submit his resignation to the Sindh Governor on Wednesday. The newly-announced chief minister would submit his nomination papers for the chief minister's slot and the process for the election of new CM would be held in a Sindh Assembly session, to be summoned by the Sindh Governor on Friday.
The newly-elected chief minister would then take oath of his office at Governor's House on the same evening. In a statement issued from the Bilawal House, Chairman Pakistan People's Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari eulogised the services of outgoing Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah for the Party and the province adding that the Party would continue to seek his guidance from his experience. Syed Qaim Ali Shah called on the PPP Chairman at the Bilawal House yesterday.
Bilawal said that the decision to replace an experienced and loyal party leader was a difficult one "but sometimes the party has to take such decisions for political and strategic purposes in the collective interest of the Party and the province." He stated that Syed Qaim Ali Shah is a great asset of the Party who stood by the Party through thick and thin for three generations of party leadership. On the occasion, outgoing Chief Minister said that Party's decision was his own as the PPP leadership has always taken wise decisions and he would continue to serve the party.
