Director General of Strategic Export Control Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of a four-member team, Zafar Ali while addressing the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday said, "Pakistan's measures to further strengthen its export controls and non-proliferation steps are well organised and recognised by the international community. The country has an effective and foolproof export control law concerning export control of sensitive goods, technologies, material and equipment."
LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed, Executive committee members Mian Rehman Aziz Chan, Amjad Ali Jawa and Waqar Ahmed Mian said Pakistan's export control policy addressed both tangible and intangible export or sale and transportation of sensitive goods and technologies.
He said Pakistan had already framed out export control legislation in 2000 and implemented it in 2004 after legislation on this law in the Parliament. Speaking on the occasion LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed appreciated the initiative to brief LCCI members about the laws and regulations concerning the implementation of the internal compliance programme for nuclear and biological weapons and their Delivery System Act 2004.
"In the defence sector, private sector has very marginal involvement. At present, the defence sector is only controlled by strategic and public sector enterprises. It is a fact that the local sector is working with low technology and has limited access to defence sector," he said.
