Spot basis bids on Wednesday for hard red winter wheat in the southern US Plains were little changed as farmers monitored flat futures prices, merchandisers said. Ample domestic and global wheat supplies weighed on K.C. hard red winter wheat contracts. Futures were at times underpinned by short-covering and Chicago Board of Trade soybean gains.
HRW wheat basis bids for product shipped by barge to the US Gulf Coast were unchanged. Jordan's state grains buyer purchased 50,000 tonnes of hard milling wheat to be sourced from optional origins in a tender for 100,000 tonnes which closed on Wednesday, European traders said. Protein premiums for wheat shipped to and through Kansas City were steady to higher on Tuesday, helped by demand for better quality wheat. As of 12:09 pm CDT (1709 GMT), K.C. September HRW wheat futures were down 1/2 cent per bushel to $4.11-1/2.
