Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) congratulated Syed Murad Ali Shah for assuming office of Chief Minister Sindh and hoped that he would play active role for rehabilitation of agriculture sector and bring the most awaited reforms in irrigation department.
According to a statement issued here on Sunday, the meeting of the SCA was held here with President SCA Syed Nadeem Qamar in chair while other members participated from Karachi, Sanghar, Sukkur and Ghotki through video link.
They said Syed Murad Ali Shah was well aware of overall situation and poor performance of agriculture and irrigation departments and it was expected that he would play his role as chief executive of the province actively for reforms in both the important sectors of economy for revival of agriculture sector.
The SCA expressed grave concerns over water scarcity in tail end areas of Rohri and Naseer canals and said there was enough water available in river Indus but growers of Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanjar Chang sub divisions of Rohri canal and of different minors and distributaries of Naseer canal were not being provided irrigation water and standing crops were being badly affected due to water scarcity in the areas.
They demanded the new CM Sindh to take immediate measures for restructuring of agriculture and irrigation departments, cleansing the said departments of black sheep and elimination of water shortage in the province particularly in riparian areas of irrigation system so that revival and development of agriculture sector could be achieved as 70 percent population of the province was directly or indirectly attached with agriculture and focus on the sector could pave the way of progress and prosperity for people of Sindh as well as of the entire nation.
