'An icon of the Left'

This is apropos Business Recorder editorial "An icon of the Left" carried by the newspaper on Sunday. No doubt, it constitutes a befitting tribute to the late Mairaj Mohammad Khan who led his entire life without losing sight of his ideals that he upheld.
According to the editorial, "The Left may currently appear just a footnote of history, but the example of a principled, committed, simple life full of sacrifice for his ideals that Mairaj leaves behind would serve as an inspiration to today's youth, workers and peasants, as it once did during his lifetime." No doubt, Mairaj Mohammad Khan always sought a radical social and economic change in the direction of greater equality.
Last but not least, National Students Federation (NSF) that Mairaj led impressively had in fact embraced the idea of radical socialism; and while the ambiguities of this idea meant for some it acted as the medium through which they bade their farewell to Marxism. It never proved to be an able or true successor to Democratic Students Federation (DSF).
