Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Monday said that federal government was taking measures to legalise movement on Torkham border so that to establish peace and protect lives of tribesmen living close to bordering area. Addressing a gathering at Mishtara Camp in Bazaar Zakhakhel of Landikotal to distribute compensation among the effected families of last day flash flood, he expressed grief over tragic incident in which a van taking wedding party was swept away by flash floods, killing 27 persons including children and women.
Additional Chief Secretary, Fida Wazir, Political Agent Khyber Agency Khalid Mehmood, Director Operation Fata Disaster Management Authority (FMDA) Arif Khan, MNA Alhaj Shahji Gul Afridi and other officials, elders and heirs of affected persons were also in attendance.
Regarding Torkham border, he said that the federal government was not imposing restrictions on border area but wanted to save lives of tribesmen. Dispelling the perception that government was depriving tribesmen's of their business at bordering area, he said the government would create business opportunities.
He said the N-led federal government would not impose any decision pertaining to future of tribal area against the wishes of tribal people. He assured that future of Fata would be decided in light of consultation and opinions of tribesmen. Member National Assembly Shahji Gul Afridi briefed the Governor KP pertaining to ongoing development schemes across Khyber Agency.
