Offloading of Sheikh Rashid: NA body expresses displeasure

A meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges was held here at the Parliament House Tuesday under the chairmanship of Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhary. The committee expressed its displeasure over off-loading of Shaikh Rashid Ahmed, MNA, from the PIA flight without any reason.
It directed the Secretary Foreign Affairs and National Assembly Secretariat to give a briefing on the rules and regulations regarding summoning the officers concerned of US Embassy in its next meeting said a press release.
The committee also directed the authorities of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to amend the rules and regulations to safeguard the honour of the members of the Parliament so that such incidents may not occur in future.
It also expressed its displeasure for not attending its meeting by the Secretary and Additional Secretary Foreign Affairs and directed them to ensure their presence in the next meeting as otherwise strict action would be taken.
On the Question of Privilege of Ms. Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio MNA, the Committee expressed its displeasure for non-resolving the issues of the MNA.
The Committee directed the Inspector General of Police, Sindh to be careful in future otherwise strict action would be taken against the concerned. The committee directed the IGP, Sindh to provide the copy of FIR to the Mover.
The Committee disposed of the Questions of Privileges of Muhammad Salman Khan Baloch, Sarzamin Khan, Akram Khan Durrani, Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur, MNAs. The Committee pended the Question of Privilege of Ms. Naeema Kishwar Khan, MNA.
The Committee emphasised that the Movers should properly pursue their Question of Privileges so that stern actions should be taken against the concerned.
While taking suo-moto action regarding non-coverage of the meetings of Standing Committees and Sub-Committees of the National Assembly, particularly, the meetings of Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privilege, the Committee expressed its displeasure and directed Secretary Committee to call the MD (PTV) in its next meeting for briefing the Committee in this regard.
