Release of ‘Dark Phoenix’ trailer marks the end of ‘X-Men’ era
The first trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix is here, putting the spotlight on Jean Grey's fiery alter ego ahead of the movie's February 14, 2019 release.
The story centers around the character Phoenix, also known as Jean Grey and played by Sophie Turner, as she develops her supreme yet unstable powers that might ruin her and the people around her, even as a young child. However, troubles arise, and Jean threatens the mutant family. They have to figure out a way to save Jean’s soul and the planet.
Sophie announced the trailer release on her Instagram account. A new update was also shared that the movie will no longer carry the X-Men tag. Instead, it will just be called Dark Phoenix.
The movie's trailer has been long due. Fox had released a slew of photos from the X-Men movie some time last year. After which, Dark Phoenix underwent a set of reshoots. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg said that he wanted to make sure he was giving fans something they would enjoy.
Apocalypse (the last film to focus on the entire X-Men team) was both a mess and a box office disappointment. Dark Phoenix itself was delayed for extensive reshoots. So the trailer has a big job: Getting the public excited about the X-Men again.
Trailer leans less on special effects and set pieces, more on a foreboding tone, and on the franchise’s big, returning stars — James McAvoy as Professor Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, plus ‘Game of Thrones’ star Sophie, who’s returning as Jean Grey.
The film will undoubtedly be the finale to a 19-year series.
