Multinational and National companies including Japanese companies have heavily invested in Pakistan and are contributing to promote more and better jobs through socially responsible labour practices. This was stated by Toshikazu Isumora, Consul General of Japan while addressing the CEOs Moot 2016 as Chief Guest here.
Dr Farooq Sattar, Parliamentary Leader of MQM in the National Assembly, speaking on the occasion said that Business can play the most pivotal role in helping the country achieve economic independence and economic sovereignty by pursuing a responsible national business agenda supported by a comprehensive social development and human rights programme along with economic and political empowerment of youth and women as a force to drive this change.
In the keynote address, Yukiko Arai, Senior Specialist of the Multinational Enterprises and Enterprise Engagement Unit in ILO Geneva, presented the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration), shared the global trends in labour &CSR as well as the country-level experiences in applying the principles of the MNE Declaration. The ILO regional project, "More and Better Jobs through Socially Responsible Labour Practices in Asia," funded by the Government of Japan operating in the Sialkot sports goods industry was also highlighted, encouraging businesses to engage with the ILO and its tripartite constituents in jointly addressing common challenges for attaining a long-term Win-Win relationship through dialogue
Earlier, Khawaja Muhammad Nauman, President, Employers` Federation of Pakistan, in his address of welcome called upon business enterprises particularly the multinational and national companies and their supply chain to benefit from the guiding principles of the MNE Declaration by engaging themselves in Social Dialogue on issues of social change through aggressive employment generation, improvement in working conditions and adopting best practices in industrial relations and vocational and skill training which formed essential ingredients of Pakistan National Business Agenda being proposed by Employers` Federation of Pakistan.
The Event was organised by Employers` Federation of Pakistan in collaboration with the ILO at a local hotel on the theme of "Compliance Plus: Engaging Multinational and National Companies in Socially Responsible Business Agenda for promoting more and better jobs," which was also addressed by Shahab Rizvi, President, OICCI, Abdul Rahim Soomro, Secretary Commerce and Industry, Government of Sindh and Abdul Rashid Solangi, Secretary Labour, Government of Sindh.
Solangi in his address appreciated the role of multinational enterprises in socio-economic development of Pakistan and recalled the steps being taken by the Government of Sindh by revamping the labour laws to provide a conducive industrial climate for investment and expansion of business activities.
