Exemption certificates: taxpayers still facing difficulties

Taxpayers are still facing difficulties in obtaining exemption certificates for Tax Year 2017, despite jurisdictional changes in all three Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) made effective from August 1, 2016. On being informed by the member, the department was either not issuing the certificates or delaying the exemption certificates due to departmental jurisdictions; Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) said in a letter sent to all three chief commissioners.
It stated that although the change in jurisdiction had been taken placed from August 1, 2016, taxpayers were facing difficulties in obtaining exemption certificates for Tax Year 2017 after the lapse of nine days and urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and take appropriate measures to facilitate the taxpayers at maximum.
