The administrative judge of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday sent suspect Sarwer Qureshi, allegedly involved in attacking Mohabbat-e-Sindh rally, to prison on judicial remand till August 25. The Kharadar Police presented Qureshi, allegedly affiliated with a political party, before the administrative judge of ATC and informed him that the suspect had confessed that he had attacked the rally near Joriya Bazaar, Karachi in May 2012.
The Investigating Officer added that Qureshi revealed that while fearing of the ongoing targeted operation, he had thrown the pistol, which was used in the attack, into the sea at the Native Jetty Bridge.
According to the police, besides Qureshi, Faisal Javed alias Mama, Amir alias Sar-Phatta and Arshad alias Cotton were also under arrest on same charges but as many as 12 suspects including Muttahida Qaumi Movement's Hammad Siddiqui, Nasir alias Chingari and Manzoor are yet to be arrested in the case. The judge sent the suspects to jail on judicial remand for two weeks and directed the police to submit investigation report in the next hearing. Earlier, the police kept Qureshi in its custody on physical remand for interrogation from August 2 to 10. At least 10 people were killed and others got injured when the assailants attacked Mohabbat-e-Sindh rally, which was organised by Ayaz Latif Palejo's Qaumi Awami Tehreek and notorious Lyari gang war's ringleader Uzair Baloch, on May 22, 2012.
