Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that ill-planned and substandard construction proved to have caused loss of precious resources in the past. His government wouldn't repeat the past mistakes. It wanted the efficient utilisation of resources on developmental strategy and the expertise of professionals in the relevant areas was a prime importance, he added.
He was talking to a six member delegation led by Muhammad Khalid, Chairman Institute of Architects Pakistan Peshawar chapter (IAP).
The delegation presented their demands and the Chief Minister assured them that his government would try to accommodate their problems within the available resources of the province.
He said when he took over there was no system to deliver. The people were wandering from post to pillar to find solution of their problems. All public institutions were politicised and these institutions were only protecting the interest of the ruling elite. His government sketched out a plan for short term, midterm and long term goals, he added.
Pervez Khattak said the first thing was to give a system that is open and transparent. Our efforts were obstructed by the stakeholders of status quo but it did not weaken our commitment for taking corrective measures. In the past no one took pain to rectify the situation. We took it as challenge to redirect the direction of public sector institutions making them subservient to the will of the people simply because we cannot believe in sweeping the dirt and filth under the carpet.
The system, to be honest was corrupted and destroyed by politicians and bureaucracy. Someone has to rise to the occasion by taking the bull by the horns and lead the way for rectification. This is what his government took upon itself to de-politicise the public sector institutions, give them independence for decision making and devolved the system to empower the local bodies system to deliver at local level.
