The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday sought comments from Sindh's Director General of Rangers and Inspector General of Police on the petitions seeking whereabouts of missing persons. The SHC bench led by Justice Irfan Saadat, was hearing the petitions filed for the recovery of missing men Syed Amir Ali, Muhammad Esa Ali, Zulfiqar Ali and Muhammad Naeem.
Syed Tahir Ali, the brother of missing Syed Amir Ali, submitted that his brother was an employee of KMC and was sitting on a tea cafe on 10th August 2016 from where he was picked up by the Rangers personnel. The petitioner added that the whereabouts of his brother has not been disclosed since then.
Mst Eshrat Parveen who is the sister of missing Muhammad Esa Ali informed the court through her petition that his brother was an employee of health department. He came to home located in Orangi Town from his office to have a lunch on July 29, 2016 where the policemen reached and whisked him away and he has been missing since then, she added.
Separately, Mst Ghazala Ali, the wife of missing Zulfiqar Ali, submitted in her petition that her spouse was picked by the law enforcers on 11th August 2016 but the family members were not being informed about his whereabouts since then.
In yet another petition, Suleman submitted that his son, Muhammad Naeem had been picked up by the Rangers personnel from his farmhouse on August 6, 2016. The whereabouts of my son are still unknown since the day of his arrest, the aged petitioner added. The petitioners alleged that their relatives were in the custody of law enforcers but they were not disclosing it. Citing DG Rangers Sindh, IGP Sindh and home secretary as the respondents, the petitioners prayed the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees before the court. After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to deputy attorney general, advocate general Sindh and respondents to file their comments in the next hearing.
