A delegation of experts including Dr Ebru Arydin and Dr Dilek Meneminilogo from the Turkish Public Health Institute, Turkey, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Friday and discussed with the UVAS researchers and the Livestock and Dairy Development (L&DD) Department officials various steps to contain and control the Congo fever virus.
The UVAS experts including Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Professor Dr Masood Rabbani, Chairman Department of Parasitology Professor Dr Kamran Ashraf and Professor Dr Tahir Yaqub briefed the Turkish delegation about spreading of Congo fever in the country.
They said that Congo fever virus was spreading from ticks of animals. They added that due to free and uncontrolled movement of livestock (both small and large animals) from one place to another and from one province to another, the virus was spreading at various places. The L&DD officials and UVAS experts said that the government as an initial measure had established entry points at various places where animals were being de wormed and sprayed with anti-tick medicines.
