The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore (UVAS) and Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) Lahore on Saturday signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for improving nutritional status of masses through research, educational activities and professional training of students in nutrition and dietetics. Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha (SI) and FJMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam signed the MoU's at the UVAS City Campus Lahore.
Under the first MoU, the UVAS and FJMU agreed to share facilities and enhance opportunities for the mutual benefit including benefit of students and masses through developing mutual research and academic proposals, undertake activities to develop centres of excellence in allied health domains especially human nutrition. They will also initiate joint degree programs. Both institutions will also conduct joint research and development projects, exchange faculty researchers, jointly organize lectures and symposia, international meetings, conferences, and workshops.
Under the second MoU, the FJMU will facilitate 9-month internship of undergraduate students of Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics of the UVAS at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Shahdara Hospital Lahore. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that these MoUs will be beneficial for students and provide a platform for sharing each other experiences. Professor Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam said that this is the first MoU signed by his university since its establishment and it will be a milestone in uplifting the healthcare system in Pakistan.
While the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore has established a 'Human Nutrition Clinic' at the City Campus. Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam along with UVAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated the clinic in UVAS City Campus Lahore. The clinic will provide services of nutritional assessment & screening, nutrition counselling for prevention and nutritional management of diseases especially obesity, diabetes, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney and liver diseases.
