Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that he was working hard to keep the city of Karachi clean, and has ordered the authorities concerned to lift garbage daily basis, repair or reconstruct roads and improve drainage system. "Being Karachiite this was my commitment with me and with the people of the city." He said this while presiding over another meeting on `cleanliness of Karachi' at New Sindh Secretariat, here on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Principal Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, Secretary Local Government Baqaullah Unar, Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Ali Khan, Administrator KMC Laiq Ahmed, MD Water board Misbahuddin, all DCs and Administrators of all DMC and representatives of district council. He said that just after taking oath, he had visited the city to see the situation of main roads and localities. Then and there he had issued directives to all the DCs, DMC administrators, water board and other concerned to start cleanliness of the city by lifting garbage, debris and sweeping main roads. "I must appreciate that the citizens are witnessing progress of cleanliness work but this is not enough you (DCs/DMCs) have to do more for the people of this city," he said and added that he was keen to hand over a clean the city of Karachi to the newly elected leadership of local bodies.
Briefing the chief minister, Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro said that a dumper lifts 20 tons of garbage in a single trip. If 10 dumper trucks are engaged in every union council, particularly those where garbage have been dumped could be cleared easily. On the chief minister said that he was ready to release necessary funds for the purpose just you (DCs/DMCs) start work.
The chief minister approved to give Rs 20 million grant to each and every DMC and Rs 20 million to SITE to start cleanliness work in their respective areas. "I am giving you ample amount and would take account of each and every penny- therefore the funds must be used transparently," he said. He also directed MD SITE to involve SITE association in the work. Syed Murad Ali Shah directed commissioner Karachi, officials of different development works of the city to start repair and maintenance work of the roads for which the government has already Rs 1.6 billion. "I would personally visit the areas where uplift works have been started," he said.
The chief minister said that just he wanted that everyone must work. "When THE government machinery would start working in time, things would automatically come to normal," he said and added that every one, the ministers, the government officers, the civil society, the social workers and every individual living on this city and the province has to play his role. Later, the chief minister also talked to media and reasserted the same commitments.
