Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that he had approved a project to install 10000 surveillance cameras in the city in order to keep an eye on the city. Speaking at a hotel here on Thursday Shah said that Rs 10 billion would be disbursed on the plan under which 10000 close circuit cameras would be installed in the city within three years.
He said the cameras already installed in different parts of the city would also be made functional. "Over 2000 spots and areas have been identified keeping in view the police record of criminal activities across the city where these 10000 cameras will be installed," he said adding that the cameras would be connected with the command and control centre.
The chief minister said that the activities would not only be monitored in the command and control centre but necessary directives would also be issued from there. Replying to a question he said that there was a lack of planning in devising development schemes. "We are trying our best to enhance the capacity of our planners and civil society also has to come forward to guide and assist the government," he urged.
Replying to another question, he said that he had taken disciplinary actions against some senior officers under the allegations of lethargy and inefficiency but just to keep the morale of the other officers high such action was not being publicised. He said he had initiated an accountability process of the government officers. Shah said police order 2001 had lot of flaws and it had turned Sindh into a police state that's why it was replaced with old law. He agreed with the audience that police reforms were badly needed for public security, protection and top of it public-friendly police was also needed.
