Nikon Corporation, one of the Japanese multinational companies, has a plan to transfer its latest technology to Pakistan through potential entrepreneurs. The Nikon Corporation Managing Director Naoki Onozato disclosed this during a meeting with Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Vice President Nasir Saeed here on Friday.
He said Japan was particularly focusing on Pakistan for technological advancement and the Japanese investors were keen to increase investment in Pakistan which had the potential to become one of the biggest economic powers of Asia.
Nikon Corporation in collaboration with Camtronx Pakistan was arranging classes, seminars, photo-walks, tours of renowned Pakistani photographers and workshops besides educating the students of colleges and universities about digital photo and videography, he added.
"Nikon and Camtronx will continue their endeavours to equip the Pakistani youth with modern technology to bring them at par with the changing international scenario," Onozato pledged. He also stressed the need for identification of areas of economic cooperation to increase the trade volume between Pakistan and Japan. The chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries could play an important role in this regard, he suggested.
Speaking on the occasion, LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed said that there was a great scope for setting up of joint ventures between the business communities of the two countries. He said among the top import and export destinations of Pakistan, Japan stood at 8th and 25th positions, respectively. Moreover, the bilateral trade between the two countries was almost US $2 billion, he alleged. The balance of trade heavily favours Japan as Pakistan's share in two-way trade was just 10 per cent, he added. Saeed said that frequent exchange of sector-specific delegations could help the Japanese private sector to explore the opportunities of trade and investment in renewable/alternate energy, solar energy and wind energy sectors in Pakistan.
