Senate Standing Committee on less Developed Areas has expressed deep concern over absence of Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman from the committee meeting without intimation. The committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Usman Khan Kakar in the Parliament House on Wednesday.
Usman Khan Kakar said the State Minister requested to delay the meeting for two months but today her absence shows that she is not accountable to Parliament and the committee, adding millions of rupees are spent on the proceedings of these committees. He said the a letter will be written to Chairman Senate to take notice of non-serious attitude of the State Minister and in case she does not appear in the next meeting, they will protest in the House.
Chairman Committee and other members also expressed their concerns over absence of Secretary Ministry on which Chairman Committee asked Additional Secretary to call the Secretary to attend the meeting. The meeting was that he was busy in connection with Cyber Crime Bill on which the Committee Members said that this committee meeting is of paramount importance.
Usman Khan Kakar said the policy of facilitating multinational companies instead of facilitating masses should come to an end. Computerised Laboratories should be set up in Balochistan's colleges and universities and in the next meeting they should be informed about funds of previous three years, he said. On which the committee meeting was told that there are total projects of worth Rs 40 billion out of which 59 percent are for Balochistan, 17 percent for Punjab, 10 percent for Sindh and 14 percent for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chairman Committee observed that service provided by most of companies is poor especially in Quetta; a phone call drops after every two minutes.
