Taxpayers at large are unlikely to meet the deadline of e-filing of income tax returns for Tax Year 2016, due to system problems. Sources from the tax consultants' community said although the deadline (September 30, 2016) for e-filing of income tax returns was approaching, the FBR web portal remained unable to provide smooth processing environment to taxpayers.
Presently, taxpayers are unable to submit wealth statements, due to system issues, they said. Elaborating the details about the problems being faced by the taxpayers in submitting wealth statements, they said that there were no significant changes made in wealth statements every year hence taxpayers/tax consultants used to retrieve last submitted wealth statements from the system and edited it with latest amendments and submit it for following year.
However, the system has been disallowing the requests of recovering previous wealth statements from the FBR database for last two days, dragging taxpayers/tax consultants to go through a cumbersome and time-consuming process of making fresh wealth statements. Replying to a question, they said that large number of taxpayers could fail to submit income tax returns by September 30, 2016, due to startling and recurrent problems being developed in the system. They also urged the FBR to facilitate the taxpayers by extending the date of e-filing of income tax returns for next more 15 days (October 15, 2016).
