Jamaat-e-Islami Chief, Senator Sirajul Haq said that if the government constituted a commission for Panama leaks probe and was prepared for accountability, doors were open for dialogue otherwise the responsibility for public protests would lie with the government. He was addressing the central leadership of the JI at Mansoora on Thursday.
The JI chief said there had been eight meetings on the ToRs' but all had been a failure only due to the government's inflexibility. JI was not demanding accountability of the Prime Minister alone. "We also want the accountability of Sirajul Haq, Asif Ali Zardari and the Musharraf government as well so that the plundered wealth could be recovered," he added. Sirajul Haq said the JI had emphasized from the very beginning that the democratic system could not flourish unless there was transparent accountability and corruption was brought to an end.
He said that peaceful protest was the beauty of the democratic system and had always strengthened the system. He said that democracy was being threatened by the rulers' dictatorial attitude. "The rulers' desire that there is none to question them and their unlawful and unconstitutional activities continued, he said, However, he said, "we want a system of transparent and impartial accountability which did not revolve around any individual". Sirajul Haq said that the corrupt in the ranks of the opposition should also be hauled up and the political parties should themselves try to free their ranks from the thieves and plunderers.
The JI chief said he was trying to bring together persons with clean record for the service of the nation and the country. He said that all the opposition parties would give their joint line of action and national agenda on September 30. He said that the performance of the government was disappointing the masses who they did not see any ray of hope. However, he said, the JI was striving that the opposition was able to end the unrest among the masses. The JI chief said that there was great tension in the region as India was continuously hurling threats to this country. In such a situation, the need of national unity, cohesion and harmony had increased. India was not only issuing threats of war but was taking practical steps in that direction.
He said that India had not accepted this country by heart so far and was considering herself the regional policeman due to the US patronage. As such, the nation should stand like a rock against the enemy designs and forge a complete unity by rising above all petty differences.
