"Putting Pakistan Right" - a book authored by Moazzam Husain - was launched at Karachi Gymkhana, here on Thursday. The author presented his perspectives on the war on terror, energy shortages, transit corridors and other issues the country faces in urban and economic development. "We need a major mind shift in Pakistan," the author said. Moazzam said "Pakistan is for the people; it is not for self-appointed establishment."
He said Pakistan needs to get rid of different types of phobias. "Pakistan just not need justify its existence; Pakistan is a fact and we have to come out of mental traps," Moazzam said while quoting from his book. He said religious extremism is an existential threat to the country while corruption is badly damaging its roots.
"We need a solution and an idea of a way forward which is why I wrote this book," he said. He said Pakistan is facing energy and governance issues. He underscored the need for privatisation of utility companies in the country. Pakistan's former Ambassador to the United Nations Abdullah Hussain Haroon said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be a game changer in the region. He said that Pakistani people have tremendous potential. The Chinese would fully appreciate the potential of Pakistan during the CPEC operations, according to him. He said Islam is the religion of peace. "Extremism does not represent the majority of countrymen as Pakistan is a highly tolerant society," Haroon said.
Former Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Saleem Raza shed light on the importance of technology to put the country on path of economic development. Country's growth rate can be increased by using technology for effective marketing of products," he added. Deputy CEO Business Recorder Arshad A. Zuberi said "nobody wants to undo Pakistan." He said China has its own interests in CPEC. "They [China] want to develop good relations with the West," he said.
Playing the role of a moderator at the book launch, senior journalist Khurrum Hussain successfully set the tone and pace of the panel discussion.
