Second seed Nimrah Aqeel upset top seeded Laiba Ijaz in the final of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junior Under-15 Age Group Squash Championship played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex Friday. The final was started on slow note and both Nimrah and Laiba Ijaz have exhibited long rallies. Nimrah Aqeel and Laiba Ijaz gave each other a tough fight soon after the first set over as Laiba Ijaz took the set by 3-11.
Nimrah Aqeel played well and despite defeat in the first set, she staged a strong comeback by giving tough resistance to Laiba Ijaz, the top seed of the Championship. Nimrah Aqeel did not match up to the forceful smashes of Laiba Ijaz in the first set. Laiba raced to victory in the first set without facing any resistance at the hands of Nimrah but she lost an edge over the match soon after winning the first set. Former World Champion and Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation Qamar Zaman was the chief guest on this occasion, who gave away trophies and cash prizes to the position holders. Chief Referee PSF Munawar Zaman, players, officials and large number of spectators were also present and witnessed the thrill-packed final.
Speaking on the occasion, former World Champion Qamar Zaman lauded the female players for their dedicated efforts in playing squash. Qamar Zaman on this occasion assured them that all out facilities would be provided. Qamar Zaman said that good talent is coming up in the female and such talented girls would be provided due coaching and training so that they could be able to represent Pakistan in near future.
