The Senate of Pakistan on Monday passed a unanimous resolution, demanding United Nations to hold an independent probe into Uri incident, to expose the sinister motives of India before the world. The resolution moved by leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq was unanimously adopted and called upon the international community to take notice of grave human right violations in held Kashmir to prevent India to desist from war hysteria to distract attention away from its crimes against humanity in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The Senate of Pakistan is meeting at a time when there is an ongoing popular, spontaneous, indigenous and widespread uprising of the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir. The Senate expresses its strong solidarity with Kashmiri people for valiantly resisting the brute repression of the Indian occupation forces and acknowledges that they are writing a glorious chapter in the annals of historical freedom movements, through their determination, will and spirit of sacrifice," it added.
It stated that the House strongly condemns the India's use of bullets and pellets which are killing, maiming and wounding a whole new generation of unarmed boys and girls, which is a crime against humanity. "We reiterate that the only way out is to grant the people of Jammu and Kashmir their inalienable right of self-determination in accordance with the relevant UN Resolutions, to which India and Pakistan are signatory," it added.
It also showed resolve that if India dared to embark on any military adventure against Pakistan, the people, the government and the armed forces of Pakistan, will stand united as one to face and defeat any form of aggression with al the might of their command.
Earlier taking part in a debate on a motion moved by Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini on present state of relations between Pakistan and India especially the recent statement made by Indian Prime Minister Naredra Modi regarding Pakistan, the senators were unanimous in giving a tit-for-tat response to India. They also criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for not raising India's blatant interference in internal matters of Pakistan, saying he should have exposed India by mentioning his spy Kulbhushan Yadav, besides giving it shut up call for comparing Balochistan with Kashmir.
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman, who is also former ambassador to US, came down hard on the government, and said: "The Modi sarkar is comparing Balochistan with Kashmir, but we did nothing [as] UNGA was the right forum to give India a shut up call, how dare it [India] compare Balochistan with Indian atrocities in Kashmir".
In the same breath, Sherry continued that 'how dare a representative of Pakistan can leave the issue unaddressed...the UN is failing people of Kashmir, and Pakistan should have told what India is into".
The PPP senator also regretted the government decision for handpicking 22 special envoys on Kashmir to highlight the issue at international level, saying instead of sending junkets of MPs, experienced diplomats should have been chosen. Winding up the debate, Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, said that what India said about Pakistan is against the UN charter, for which a dossier is prepared which will be sent to UN secretary general.
He said that there is no comparison between Balochistan and IOK, as the uprising in Kashmir in completely indigenous and spontaneous movement, adding, 'India has been badly exposed before the world for what it has been saying against Pakistan'. "We've given a dossier to UN secretary general during UNGA meeting, which contained all the details and pictures of Indian atrocities...after seeing the dossier, the UN secretary general was shocked and he also assured action," he added.
He said that foreign ministers of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have reaffirmed their full support to the right to self-determination of the people of occupied Kashmir. "The support came at annual co-ordination meeting of the 57 OIC member countries in New York with Foreign Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah in the chair," he added.
He said that Pakistan wants an intentional probe into Uri incident, adding we don't accept India's stance, as Modi wants to dominate the region. "It will remain his [Modi] wishful thinking as Pakistan will never accept India's dominance," he added. The House also convened the committee of whole meeting to discuss Kashmir issue, where the Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs will brief the house in details.
The opposition lawmakers demanded an all parties' conference or a joint sitting of parliament to apprise the remarks by Indian Prime Minister against Pakistan and Indian atrocities in held Kashmir. However, chairman Senate Raza Rabbani said that he would not favour any all parties' conference and the government must call a joint sitting to take the house into confidence on issues of national interest, as APCs are tantamount to undermine the sovereignty of parliament.
The senators who took part in the debate included Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Colonel Syed Tahir Hussain Mashahdi (Retd), Azam Swati, Saussi Palijo, Mukhtar Dhamra, Mohsin Aziz, Hamdullah, Jehanzeb Jamliddi, Sirajul Haq, Mushahidullah Khan, Babar Awan, Shahi Syed, Ayesha Farooq, and Maulana Attaur Rehman.
