The rupee managed to gain slight value against the dollar on the money market on Wednesday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee maintained rising trend versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 104.69 and Rs 104.72 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee retained overnight levels in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.10 and Rs 105.30 respectively, they said. The rupee rose by 30 paisas in terms of the euro for buying at Rs 116.70 and for selling at Rs 118.20.
In the third Asian trade, the dollar rose versus the yen on Wednesday, while the euro nursed its losses after retreating on concerns over the health of the European financial system. The dollar rose 0.2 percent to 100.69 yen, regaining some footing after setting a one-month low of 100.085 yen on Tuesday. The euro held steady at $1.1209, languishing below this week's high of $1.1280 set on Monday. The euro had retreated on Tuesday as share prices in Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest lender, fell to a record low on concerns about a $14 billion demand from the US Department of Justice.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 66.47, the greenback was available at 4.1300 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was trading at 6.6703 in terms of the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee stayed unchanged on buying side while it gained 10-paisa on selling side in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Wednesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar commenced trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 105.00 and Rs 105.55 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar did not observe any change in its buying rate throughout the day while its selling rate declined to Rs 105.45.
However, the rupee maintained downward trend for another day and remained under pressure against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rate further improved from the Tuesday closing of Rs 134.70 and Rs 135.70 to Rs `135.40 and Rs 136.40, respectively, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The value of rupee against the dollar remained unchanged at local currency establishments of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 104.50 (buying) and Rs 105 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in evening session and closed at Rs 104.50 (buying) and Rs 105 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 137.50 (buying) and Rs 138 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 137.50 (buying) and Rs 138 (selling) by the end of second session.
